mainly music is a interactive music group for preschool children and their caregivers. Each week children will enjoy creative dance, rhyme and rhythm, and most of all have a lot of fun!
Your children will practice fine motor movements, large motor movements, language development and social skills, while you have the opportunity to network with other parents.
Below is a summary of a typical morning session:
10:15 A.M. - Registration and meet/greet session.
10:30 A.M. - Music Program: Time of music, rhyme, movement, listening and more...finger puppets, parachutes, instruments, props, etc...
11:00 A.M. - Snack: Time for coffee/tea and a snack for adults. Nut-free snacks and water will also be provided for the children.
11:15 A.M. - Free Play.
11:30 A.M. - Clean up and head home.

Fun! mainly music is a fun, interactive music session where a child and their parent or caregiver can enjoy music, movement, interaction, rhymes, puppets and more. mainly music is a structured session but the focus is on the interaction between parent and child. The amazing factor is the learning that takes place - fine motor skills, gross movement, literacy, numeracy - plus more. We focus on the interaction between adult and child.
Food! a mainly music session is followed by snacks and refreshments and play ... or if you're an adult - a hot drink, a snack and connection with other adults. This is the chance you can have to recharge your batteries while your child plays.
Our usual 'blurb' about mainly music is ... Started in 1990, mainly music is a fun music group for parents or care givers to enjoy together with their young child. Throughout the morning, children develop gross and fine motor skills, language, imagination, maths and pre-reading skills as well as socialize with others. Each mainly music is associated with and is run by volunteers from a local church. Children are introduced to music, creativity and more... Amazing to think that all this can be achieved in a loving, shared family environment.

The 2010 Fall session is on every other Tuesday at 10:15AM, September 14, 2010-December 14, 2010. There are 2 semesters of mainly music per year: Fall and Winter/Spring.

Do you run sessions every week of the year?

No. mainly music follows the Fairfax County School Calendar for vacations and also use their inclement weather closing system. Listen for information about school closings on 630AM or Channel 4 News.

Can I join mid-way through a semester?
----------------------------------------
Yes. mainly music is a fun, interactive music session - not a music class. So you are not coming in part way into a curriculum. You can join at any time.

What if I miss a week?

All is fine. You have a young child! Routines go awry, children get sick, mornings do not happen as expected.

How much does it cost to attend mainly music?

The cost is only $40 per family regardless of the number of children.

Do I need to take anything to a session?
----------------------------------------
No. Everything is provided for you at the session.

My child has food allergies - what do I do?
----------------------------------------
Hand cleaning is done at each session. The snacks served are nut free. Children's drinks are 100% water. If your child has other allergies, we suggest that it's best you take an alternate snack. We know it is difficult for children to see others with food they're not allowed - help your child overcome this in preparation for social situations and school.

What type of music is performed at mainly music?

The songs are a mixture of popular children's rhymes and music (i.e. Wheels on the Bus, If you're Happy and you Know it, etc...). Each session may have 1-3 "God" songs.

How do I purchase the music CDs so I can sing at home with my kids?
----------------------------------------
CDs are available for purchase at the corporate mainly music site: purchase music (http://www.mainlymusic.org/). We may do a CD fundraiser for Two Tiny Hands and SIDS Mid-Atlantic of the favorite songs on the Orange CD from MM. If you are interested in this, please let Leslie Trieu know.

What age should I start my child at mainly music?

Start your child from Birth. If you need to get out, then come to mainly music and fellowship with the other mothers, fathers, and caregivers. Once your baby becomes more interested, then bounce, swing, and sway your child, and move their hands.

Can I bring my older children?
----------------------------------------
mainly music is designed for children 0-5 years old. We ask that if older children must attend that they sit and enjoy the music activity, but not join the preschoolers.

What is the difference between mainly music and other commercial music programs?
